3 ways to stage a home with plants

Having showings scheduled for a home you’ve placed on the market to sell is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful. You’re obviously hoping to get an offer on your home, so you want it to look its best when prospective buyers arrive for a tour. Staging is a means of preparing a house indoors and out to enhance its beauty and create an atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home.

Since you want buyers to be able to imagine themselves living in your home, it’s typically best to tone down personal features in the house. For instance, it’s a good idea to remove family photos from the walls, replacing them with generic décor. Strategic use of house plants is also a valuable staging tool that you can implement in several ways.

Use house plants to draw attention to a specific area or feature

In staging your home for showings, you’ll want to accent the amenities, so buyers will be sure to notice. Place a group of house plants in the area you want them to notice. For instance, if you want to draw attention to a fireplace or book shelf, house plants make a great focal point.

Perhaps one of the unique and interesting features in your home is a cathedral ceiling or natural wood beams overhead. You can use hanging plants to draw the eye in a vertical direction.

Place plants on a stand or a group of stools to fill in empty space

Buyers often overlook unused space in a home, which is why it’s a good idea to use house plants to draw their attention to it. For instance, you might have a loft area or corner space that you don’t use but that a new homeowner might be delighted to turn into office space or a sitting area.

Before showing the house, invest in a few plant stands or stools to create an artistic grouping of plants that attract attention to the area you want the buyers to notice.

Use green plants or plants with flowers indoors and out

Remember that neutral and non-personal is best when it comes to home décor when your goal is to inspire visitors to imagine their own belongings there. Instead of shelves full of family pictures at the beach, you can use greenery or plants with flowers for a pop of color to make rooms look attractive.

Don’t forget to make good use of plants outdoors as well when staging your home for showings. Curb appeal is a top priority because visitors see the outside of your home first, and if it’s in bad shape, they might decide that they don’t even want to see the inside! On the other hand, a well-kept yard with a sprinkling of attractive plants and flowers enhances the beauty of your home and can help increase the chances of getting a sale.
